working in Claudy Jongstra's studio

I was thinking about Claudy Jongstra, an amazing felt artist who makes monumental felt pieces and draws attention to landscape, disappearing flora and fauna and how to care for our common home better.

She has her own flock of sheep and runs a biodynamic farm. Here she grows the plants which she uses to dye the fibers.

With this incorporation of the whole proces I think she is an artist educator, which was the reason I contacted her. When I did, she offered me to work at her studio for a week to gain insight in her way of working and the many things that go on in her studio.

So! Here I am, working in the idyllic village of Spannum. I have worked in the dying studio, dying organza with walnut-skins, I applied a top layer (which in felting is actually the back layer) on a huge felt piece, I have combed many many strands of wool in gorgeous colors, sewn velcro strips for the museum expos, and much more.

Two more days to go!
