Desperate times, creative measure

This new embroided piece is a contribution to the 'tiny pricks project' created and curated by Diana Weymar. This series holds a creative space in a tumultuous political climate. Tiny Pricks Project counterbalances the impermanence of Twitter and other social media, and Trump’s statements by using textiles that embody warmth, craft, permanence, civility, and a shared history. The daintiness and strength of each piece stand in stark contrast to his presidency.

It is both and honor and a horror to stitch this piece of art. To be confronted with this stream of dehumanizing words and normalized lies and me and many others in this creative project using time, stitching hands and care to archive and hold to account those who bring fear and hatred into the pubic sphere. I choose this quote for its absurdity and the 'I don't know about you guys..' already preparing you for complicity followed by ' but I love the concept of buying Greenland'. As he loves ideas of acquiring, possessing, owning versus stewardship. As Hall Rockefeller writes: 'Tiny Prick Project does not construct a quilt in a literal sense, but it crowdsourced nature brings to mind a similar catharsis.Words that take moments to type versus hours to sew.An indicidual versus an army. A feed versus a flood of objects.Screens versus cloth. The tiny pricks project is the textile movement for the twenty-fist century, a global digital quilting bee.'
